Know before you go

Please reach us at mauikul512@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Note: buying items through links on our site,  may earn us a commission.

Both our Kuleana and Mahina Surf condos check-ins are contactless, so there’s no front desk to navigate—just head  up to your unit. Door code instructions will be given to you in your booking reservation.

Our cleaning procedures  ensure  our condos are meticulously cleaned and sanitized prior to your to the island. Beyond our standard comprehensive cleaning service, our housekeeping team  disinfects all common-touch components and surfaces throughout each unit and following CDC guidelines for the hospitality industry.

If one of our team members needs to enter the unit for any reason, we will coordinate with you on a safe way to do that. Our team is also committed to following local mask policies and regulations and we ask all our guests to do the same whether you are out and about or on the resort.

*The up-to-date local policy will always be posted inside the unit.

YES! When we first started coming to Hawaii we were confused about what beaches were public and which were private.  The truth is ALL beaches in Hawaii are public.  A good rule of thumb is where the vegetation ends and the sand or water begins is public land and you are welcome to enjoy.  Sometimes it is hard to get to the beach because people have them blocked or gated.

Please check your sunscreen before you pack or buy! Hawaii has banned several chemicals used in sunscreens because they kill the coral, which in turn kills the fish.

The banned chemicals are Oxybenzone and Octinoxate.

NOTE: The manufactures however created new chemicals that are very much like these chemicals so be aware. Many suncreens say, 'reef safe', but are not.

Here is a list of sunscreens  known to be reef safe. The sunscreens below in bold can be found locally on Maui, those with * are made in Hawaii.

  • *Kokua Sun Care Hawaiian SPF 50 Natural Zinc Sunscreen
  • *Mama Kuleana Waterproof SPF 30 Reef-safe Sunscreen
  • *Little Hands Hawaii SPF 35+ All-natural and Organic Sunscreen
  • Manda Organic SPF 50 Sun Paste
  • *Raw Love SPF 35 All-natural Mineral Sunscreen
  • Thinksport SPF 50 Sunscreen
  • All Good SPF 30 Sport Sunscreen Lotion
  • Raw Elements SPF 30 Certified Natural Sunscreen
  • Stream2Sea SPF 30 Mineral Sunblock

Respectfully, humans need to remain at least 10 feet from the turtles at all times for both your safety and their protection. We know, turtles are very cute but please never touch them or hang on to them if they swim near you. A cool photo is never worth endangering a sea turtle or their habitat.

We try to be eco friendly, so here is what we do to reduce our footprint:

  •  Kul512 has a shampoo dispenser instead of small bottles of shampoo and conditioner.  There is nowhere on the island to recycle those little bottles.
  • Keeping the windows and doors closed when you run the AC and use the fan to push the air throughout the condo.
  • Pulling the shade down on the lanai when the sun gets too hot, especially when you leave for the day.
  • Using  reusable bags for shopping (located in the towel drawer)
  • Covering our leftovers with the beeswax bowl covers instead of plastic wrap.
  • Using the Brita water filter pitcher provided so you don't have to buy plastic water bottles.
  • Visit the 'In the Know' page before buying your sunscreen for your trip.

Most of our furniture and items in our condos are locally sourced on Maui or neighboring island. However here are a few places you can shop both online or in person if you are interested in buying.

Art work:

  • Prints on the walls in the unit are by local artist Stacey Vosberg.
  • The large photographs on metal in both units are by local artist Lyle Krannichfeld, you can check out his work at the  Pueo Gallery located in Paia.

Baby/Kid Items:

We purchased our Ingenuity Activity Center for our from a friend on island, but they are also available at Target or Amazon nationwide.

The high chair that can be requested before arrival can be found on Amazon.

Furniture:

All of our teak tables and chairs in both units are from Outdoor Living in Kahului.
