Our beach is 45 yards away and a turtle sanctuary.
On occasion you will see over 30 turtles in one day! This beach allows you to enter via the ladder to snorkel or paddle out to surf.
Note: This beach is considered a seasonal beach, during the winter months the high surf washes away the sand, but don't worry, it always comes back!
Very picturesque beach. Also known as Pa'ako Beach. Park on the side of the road. There is a small retaining wall opening to walk through.
This beach is walking distance (0.6 miles) from the condo and across the street from Bad Ass Coffee and The Farmers Market.
This is a great beach for kids because of the natural breakwave.
Beach access: There is a free parking lot just off Lower Honoapillani Road. Short walk to the beach (50 yards or less).
Napili Bay, a short 6 minute drive north, is known for its fine golden sand. It lies between two rocky points and is an excellent beach for swimming and other water activities. The ocean bottom is sandy, but drops off quickly to overhead depths.surfers. The summer months are best for swimming and snorkeling. We have seen lots of turtles and fish here.
Beach access: Go north on Lower Honopiilani Rd. Turn left on Hui street. Follow the street around (it is a dead end). You will see a walk path by the Napili Bay resort. If you are lucky you can find parking by the path. If not just turn around and park along the street.
Kapalua Bay, a 7 minute drive north, is a beautiful white-sand beach. Swimming is good here because a coral reef and long rocky outcrops at both sides of the bay protect the beach from strong currents. Because of a lack of strong waves and currents, the inshore waters are usually clear, so the snorkeling and diving conditions are good, especially at the north end of the beach. There's a little bit less sand there, so the visibility is better.
Ho'okipa Beach Park, located on Hana Highway (Road to Hana), is one of the most popular windsurfing destinations in the world. Two world-class competitions take place here every year. In the winter months, the waves can reach heights of 15 feet and more at Ho'okipa.
Although this beach is known for surfing we also go here around 4pm in the afternoon when the turtles come in to rest. We have seen over 40 turtles on the beach at one time.
Beach Access: There is a one way road to drive down with parking at the bottom of the hill. Usually this lot is full. If you go north of the driveway there is an upper driveway and you can park there and walk down the hill.
Big Beach, located on Maui's south shore, has plenty of sand for everyone. At almost two-thirds of a mile long and over 100 feet wide, it is one of the most popular beaches on the island.
Big Beach has everything you need for a fun day at the beach – powdery soft sand, picnic tables, portable toilets, and great views of the ocean. When the ocean is calm, the swimming and snorkeling is good here.
Beach access: A paved parking lot just off the main road. $10 to park or park on the street for free. Just to the north of Big Beach lies a smaller beach, Little Beach , accessible via a short hike up a big rocky hill. It is one of the few beaches on Maui where some people go nude (even though public nudity is not allowed by law anywhere in Hawaii). Little Beach is also where the locals visit on Sunday nights for fire shows, music and dancing.
The beach is quite small and primarily made up of boulders with a few scattered patches of sand, so surfing, snorkeling and scuba diving are the main activities here. The bay is a favorite spot among experienced surfers. During the winter months, the waves here are powerful.
Honolua Bay is part of the Mokuleia Marine Life Conservation District. This protected area encompasses Honolulu Bay and neighboring Mokuleia Bay (commonly known as Slaughterhouse Beach). When the waters are calm, it's a good spot to explore the bay's underwater world as there are many coral formations and an abundance of fish.
Beach access: Park just off the road and walk through the beautiful trees and plants (about 0.5 miles) to get to Honolua Bay. Please stay on the trail as there are gravesites on the property.
This beach is half a mile long and great for a variety of water activities and picnics. Lava outcropping divides beach into two sections. Rarely crowded, so it's a nice place to enjoy some peace and quiet.
Snorkeling can be good at the north and south end of the beach around the lava points. Gentle slope to deeper offshore waters, good swimming when the ocean is calm. Sandy ocean bottom with few rocks.
Beach Access: There is a parking lot to park in. The main beach is straight down from the parking lot. If you go right just before entering the beach area there is a path to another beach. Less crowded. Might find people without suits at the far end of the beach.
